What's behind our velvet fabric?

Velvet is undoubtedly one of the most fashionable fabrics.

Velvet, a vintage fabric from the 70s, has returned to the forefront in recent years.

What are the advantages of velvet? Jackets, trousers, dresses, skirts... There is no garment that has not been made of velvet. Its flexibility and warmth make it one of the most popular fabrics.

Thick velvet keep the heat in, a quality everyone appreciates, especially as winter approaches!

What are the different types of velvet ?

At Petit Bateau, we often use cotton fiber yarns to make three different types of velvet:

Smooth velvet is a fabric that generally has a smooth, matt surface on the reverse side and a soft, brushed surface on the right side. Velvet is widely used to create wonderfully warm pyjamas; even winter is unwilling to come up against it because velvet is so formidable!

Rib-knit velvet is a raised, ribbed material with fine, tight ribbing and a soft surface. Many of our baby and children's sleepwear items are made from rib-knit velvet.

Corduroy is a raised, ribbed material with wide ribbing and a soft surface. In our collections, we offer different thicknesses, with more or less marked ribbing: trousers, pyjamas, jumpers... the choice is yours!

Some care tips from our quality department

We advise you not to dry velvet sleepsuits and pyjamas in the fresh air but in the tumble dryer to keep them soft. Please take a little time to read the care symbols and washing instructions on the label inside your garment, as every garment is different.
